Air Chimney Sweep Cleaning Service Carlsbad, CA

The People Behind the Work

Carlsbad is where we work every day. That means we know its homes — how they are built, how they are lived in, and what tends to go wrong in them.

The truck carries a rod-and-brush set sized to your flue, a sealed vacuum, drop cloths, and a camera on a flexible rod for looking up the chimney from inside the firebox. The crew lays the cloths first and sets the vacuum at the opening before anything else happens, so soot stays in the fireplace instead of on your floor. Then we look — camera up the flue, eyes on the firebox, damper, smoke shelf and cap. If there is enough buildup to matter, we brush from the bottom or the top depending on the chimney, vacuum it out, and show you what came down. If there isn't, we say so and skip the sweep. Plenty of Carlsbad chimneys get inspected, photographed, and cleared without a brush ever touching them, and we would rather tell you that than charge you for a cleaning you did not need. For gas appliances we bring a different kit: manometer, cleaning tools for the burner and logs, and what we need to check the pilot assembly, thermocouple or thermopile, and glass gasket.

We work on open masonry fireplaces, factory-built prefab units, and sealed direct-vent gas inserts, including Heatilator, Heat & Glo, Majestic, Napoleon, Superior and Empire. We handle sweeping, chimney inspection, caps, liners, flues, fireboxes, and gas fireplace service and repair. We do not do masonry or brickwork. If your mortar joints or firebrick need rebuilding, we will document it with photos and tell you what kind of contractor to call, but we are not going to pretend it's in our lane.

North County coastal San Diego does not burn much wood. Most fireplaces here run a handful of times per winter rather than nightly, so creosote is usually light and the real problems are somewhere else. We pull bird and rodent nests out of flues that have sat unused for years. We find wasp and spider colonies, rust on prefab chimney chases, deteriorated caps and crown cracks from sitting idle in salt air. Winter storms off the Pacific drive rain sideways into flashing and chase covers, and that water shows up as stains on the ceiling in February. Older masonry near the coast spalls from moisture cycling. Homes converted from wood to gas often have an oversized original flue, poor draft, and an abandoned damper nobody ever clamped. On cost: a straight sweep and inspection on an accessible chimney is at the low end of what we do. It moves up when the roof is steep or tile, when the flue is tall or offset, when a nest has to be removed and the flue disinfected, or when the camera turns up a cracked crown, a rusted chase cover, or a liner problem that turns the visit into repair work instead of maintenance. Gas service prices differ again depending on whether it's a cleaning and tune or a failed valve. We tell you which category you're in while we're standing there, before we start.

Our service area

We cover Carlsbad and the surrounding towns. If you're in one of these areas and have a chimney sweep problem, call us. We usually get out the same day.

How we decide what to recommend

Why would a chimney that gets used four times a winter need anything at all? That question comes up on nearly every call we take in North County coastal San Diego. Light use means light creosote. It does not mean a healthy chimney. Idle flues collect bird and rodent nesting. Wasp colonies and spider webs can choke draft too. Our recommendation almost never starts with soot. It starts with water and with what moved in.

Our order of priority is fixed. Anything letting rain in gets named first. Winter storms come off the Pacific sideways, and flashing and chase covers take that hit directly. So do crowns. Salt-laden air rusts prefab chase tops from the inside. A cracked crown feeding a masonry stack near the coast produces the spalling firebrick and crumbling mortar joints we later get called about. Fixing the top is cheaper than rebuilding what the top ruined.

Repair wins when the shell is sound and the damage is at a joint, a cap, or a single course of brick. We say replace when a prefab firebox has rusted panels or seams, or when refractory is broken through.

Gas conversions get their own look. Oversized original flues, sluggish draft. Abandoned dampers never clamped open. We tell you plainly when the honest answer is to leave a rarely used fireplace alone.
