Fireplace Insert Installation in Carlsbad, CA

Can an insert go into the fireplace I already have?
That depends on what the firebox is. Open masonry fireplaces with clay tile flue liners, common in pre-1970s Carlsbad homes, usually accept a wood or gas insert with a stainless liner run full height to the top. Factory-built metal prefab fireboxes are a different question. Most prefabs are listed only for specific inserts, or for none at all. Dropping an unlisted insert into a prefab voids the listing. We read the label inside the firebox opening first. If the label is gone or unreadable, that limits the options.
Measurements decide the rest. Firebox depth, front and rear width, opening height, and hearth extension. Damper plates often have to come out, and on masonry that means cutting steel in place. Prefab chases in 1980s-2000s tract housing add another step: the chase cover comes off to run the liner, and rusted-through covers get discovered at that moment.
Gas inserts need a gas line sized for the appliance and a direct-vent path through the existing flue. B-vent and vent-free are not interchangeable with direct-vent.
Coastal salt air corrodes galvanized parts faster than inland. We specify stainless where it will sit exposed.
Old refractory panels cracked through are a stop-work item, not a cosmetic one.
What happens after you call us
Call and tell us what the fireplace is doing, or not doing. We book a two hour window, not a whole afternoon, and the tech texts when he leaves the last stop.
He looks at the firebox, the flue and the cap, then tells you what he found and what the work costs. The estimate is free, and the number depends on what turns up.
We sweep or make the repair, light it and watch it run, then vacuum the hearth and carry the drop cloth out with us. You pay the quoted figure, nothing added at the door.
