Gas Fireplace Installation in Carlsbad, CA

What kind of gas fireplace will actually fit your house?
The answer is decided by what is already in the wall. Pre-1970s Carlsbad homes usually have open masonry with clay tile flue liners. Those accept a gas insert with a listed liner run to the top, or a log set in the open firebox. Tract housing from the 1980s through the 2000s is different. Those are factory-built metal prefab fireboxes inside stucco or wood-sided chases, topped by sheet-metal chase covers. A prefab is a listed assembly. Only parts the manufacturer lists belong inside it.
Direct-vent is the usual retrofit. Sealed glass, coaxial pipe, combustion air from outside. It can terminate horizontally through the chase wall or run vertically. B-vent pulls air from the room and needs a vertical flue. Clearances to operable windows, eaves and decks come from the appliance manual, not from habit.
Two things get missed. Many older fireboxes have only a log lighter stub, which is not sized or valved for a full log set or an insert. Most direct-vent units with a blower or electronic ignition want a 120V outlet inside the cavity. Old prefab cavities rarely have one.
Before committing, we check the refractory panels, the chase cover, the rain cap and the damper. Cracked panels and a rusted-through cover on a discontinued prefab means replacement, not an insert. Gas log installs get a spillage check with the damper clamped, because a blocked damper puts exhaust in the living room.
What happens after you call us
Call and tell us what the fireplace is doing, or not doing. We book a two hour window, not a whole afternoon, and the tech texts when he leaves the last stop.
He looks at the firebox, the flue and the cap, then tells you what he found and what the work costs. The estimate is free, and the number depends on what turns up.
We sweep or make the repair, light it and watch it run, then vacuum the hearth and carry the drop cloth out with us. You pay the quoted figure, nothing added at the door.
