Gas Fireplace Pilot Light Repair in Carlsbad, CA

What pilot light repair on a Carlsbad gas fireplace actually involves
Gas gets shut at the appliance valve first. Glass front comes off. Log set comes out. Pilot hood gets checked under light. Spider webbing inside the pilot orifice is the most common find. It gets cleaned, the orifice reseated, and the flame shape checked. A correct pilot flame envelops the thermocouple tip. A lazy yellow flame that drifts off the tip will not hold the valve open.
Next comes a meter on the thermopile, read open circuit and again under load. A pilot that lights but drops out when the burner fires usually means a weak thermopile, not a dirty one. Loose or greened spade terminals at the valve matter here too. Salt air off the coast corrodes those leads and connectors faster than inland.
Venting drives a lot of pilot outages locally. Gas log conversions in older masonry fireboxes with clay tile liners need the damper clamped open. Blocked flues cause downdraft. Bird nesting in seldom-used chimneys does too. Missing rain caps cause downdraft that snuffs a standing pilot and spills combustion into the room. Direct-vent units behave differently. A torn glass gasket or debris at the termination will trip the ODS pilot instead.
Some pilot assemblies are no longer built. When the valve is obsolete, we say so plainly.
What happens after you call us
Call and tell us what the fireplace is doing, or not doing. We book a two hour window, not a whole afternoon, and the tech texts when he leaves the last stop.
He looks at the firebox, the flue and the cap, then tells you what he found and what the work costs. The estimate is free, and the number depends on what turns up.
We sweep or make the repair, light it and watch it run, then vacuum the hearth and carry the drop cloth out with us. You pay the quoted figure, nothing added at the door.
